Refund Policy — Punchwell, by Sturdyhaus

Draft for attorney review. This page is a plain-language draft and not yet final legal text. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Bracketed items like [Sturdyhaus Legal Entity Name] are placeholders to be filled in or confirmed before publishing. Nothing here is legal advice, and the final, signed version (linked from your checkout and your order receipt) is the one that governs your purchase.

We want you to be confident buying Punchwell Pro. If it isn’t the right fit, we offer a straightforward money-back window. This policy explains who it covers, what qualifies, how to ask, and how renewals work — in plain English.

This Refund Policy is part of, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service. It applies to purchases of Punchwell Pro licenses made through our store at [sturdyhaus.com] and our billing portal at [app.sturdyhaus.com], operated by [Sturdyhaus Legal Entity Name] (“Sturdyhaus,” “we,” “us”).

The short version

  • 14-day money-back guarantee on a first-time Punchwell Pro license.
  • Ask within [14] days of your purchase and we’ll refund what you paid.
  • The free version of Punchwell on WordPress.org is, and always will be, free — there’s nothing to refund there.
  • Renewals can be canceled anytime to stop future charges. See Renewals for how a renewal charge itself is handled.

If anything below is unclear, just contact us — we’d rather sort it out than have you stuck.

Who this covers

This policy covers paid Punchwell Pro licenses:

  • Pro — 1 site ([$99]/year)
  • Pro — 5 sites ([$199]/year)

The free Community version of Punchwell, distributed on WordPress.org, has no purchase price, so there is nothing to refund. You can keep using it for as long as you like.

Punchwell is self-hosted, GPL-licensed software. Your Pro license pays for the Pro feature bundle, updates, and support — not for a hosted service. Because of that, a few things below (like keeping the files after a refund) work a little differently than they would for a typical cloud subscription. We’ve called those out plainly.

The 14-day money-back window

We offer a [14]-day money-back guarantee on your first-time purchase of a Punchwell Pro license.

If you’re not satisfied for any reason, request a refund within [14] calendar days of the date of your original purchase and we’ll refund the amount you paid for that license. You do not need to give a detailed reason — though we genuinely appreciate hearing what didn’t work, because it helps us improve the product.

What qualifies:

  • A first-time Pro purchase, where you request the refund within the [14]-day window.
  • Cases where Punchwell doesn’t do what we said it does, or you hit a problem we can’t resolve with you in a reasonable time.

What this is not:

  • It is not a free long-term trial. The free Community version on WordPress.org is there to evaluate the core product before you buy Pro.
  • It is not a way to keep using paid features indefinitely at no cost (see After a refund).

What may not be eligible

To keep the guarantee fair and sustainable for a small, independent maintainer, the following may not be eligible for a refund. This is one of the areas most likely to change after legal review, so treat it as a draft.

  • Requests made after the [14]-day window has closed.
  • Renewal charges, except as described under Renewals below.
  • Repeat or abuse patterns — for example, refunding a license, then re-purchasing and refunding again, or requesting a refund after clearly using the paid features in production beyond a genuine evaluation.
  • Third-party costs — anything you paid to someone other than Sturdyhaus (for example, your web host, a developer you hired, or fees charged by a payment provider that we don’t control). We can only refund what you paid us.
  • Purchases made through a third-party reseller or marketplace, if any exist in the future — those would be governed by that seller’s refund terms. (At launch, Pro is sold directly through Sturdyhaus.)

We may decline or limit a refund where we reasonably believe the request is fraudulent, abusive, or made in bad faith. Where a refund is required by applicable consumer-protection law in your location, that law takes precedence over anything in this section.

[ATTORNEY REVIEW: confirm consumer-rights treatment for the EU/UK (statutory withdrawal rights for digital goods), and decide whether to require a "no production use beyond evaluation" condition or drop it as unenforceable/unfriendly. Also confirm handling of chargebacks.]

How to request a refund

To request a refund, contact us within the [14]-day window:

  • Email: [support@sturdyhaus.com]
  • Or: open a request from your account at [app.sturdyhaus.com]

Please include:

  1. The email address used for the purchase, and
  2. Your order number or license key (you’ll find these on your purchase receipt and in your account at [app.sturdyhaus.com]).

That’s all we need. You don’t have to fill out a form explaining yourself.

What happens next:

  • We’ll confirm receipt of your request, typically within [2 business days].
  • Once approved, we’ll process the refund to your original payment method.
  • Your bank or card issuer then posts it on their own timeline — usually within [5–10 business days], depending on the provider. We don’t control that final step.

After a refund

When a refund is issued, the associated Pro license is canceled. That means:

  • Your license key is deactivated, and you’ll stop receiving Pro updates and support.
  • Because Punchwell is GPL-licensed, self-hosted software, any plugin files already installed on your site remain on your server — we can’t and don’t reach into your site to remove them. To stop using the Pro features, deactivate and remove the Pro plugin(s) from your WordPress dashboard. You’re welcome to continue with the free Community version.
  • Your HR data stays yours. Punchwell stores your employee, attendance, and leave records in your own WordPress database. A refund doesn’t touch that data, and we never had a copy of it — Punchwell is self-hosted with no call-home.

Renewals and cancellation

Punchwell Pro licenses are sold as an annual subscription that renews automatically each year so your updates and support don’t lapse, unless you cancel.

  • Cancel anytime. You can turn off automatic renewal from your account at [app.sturdyhaus.com], or by [contacting us]. Canceling stops the next charge; your current license keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • Renewal reminders. We intend to email you a reminder before each renewal charge. [ATTORNEY/OPS: confirm reminder lead time, e.g. [14] days before renewal, and that it satisfies any auto-renewal-disclosure laws such as US state ARL rules.]
  • Refunds on a renewal charge. Our money-back guarantee is designed for your first-time purchase. For a renewal, if you were charged and didn’t intend to renew, contact us within [14] days of the renewal charge and we’ll work with you in good faith — typically by canceling future renewals and, where appropriate, refunding a recent renewal you didn’t mean to pay. [ATTORNEY REVIEW: decide the firm renewal-refund rule — e.g. full refund if within [14] days and unused, vs. cancel-only.]

Price changes: if we ever change Pro pricing, the new price applies to new purchases and future renewals, not retroactively to a term you’ve already paid for. As stated on our pricing page, your renewal price is held steady for as long as you don’t let your license lapse.

Questions

If you’re unsure whether your situation qualifies, ask before the window closes — we’d much rather talk it through than leave you guessing.
